Our Journey

1970: SCLC is founded by local volunteers.
1985: Reaches 100 active students.
2000: Expands to multiple libraries and churches.
2015: Launches online and hybrid classes.
2020: Celebrates 50 years with over 8,000 learners served.
2024: Earns GuideStar Gold Seal.

Our Mission

The South Coast Literacy Council is a 100% volunteer organization offering free English language instruction to adult learners in South Orange County. We believe that literacy empowers families, strengthens communities, and creates opportunity.

We value community, accessibility, compassion, and the dignity of each learner.
