Thank you for your interest in volunteering with South Coast Literacy Council! All Board members and all tutors in SCLC volunteer their time. There are no paid positions in SCLC.
SCLC believes it is important for non-English speaking adults who live in our area to learn the English language and the culture of the country in which they now live, regardless of their financial resources. As our students acquire English proficiency, they can become active and helpful participants in the community. Importantly, they are also empowered to live their personal lives with greater confidence and success. As ability and confidence increase, our students can participate fully in their own economic endeavors, their education, their health care, and their children’s futures. The entire community benefits from our efforts.
Our mission is to assist adults to acquire English language skills. For over 50 years our dedicated volunteers have been working with ESL students in south Orange County, California. SCLC has provided free English classes in libraries, churches, community centers, and other donated spaces.
SCLC classes are now online and in person. Tutors often access enriching teaching materials and resources through our website and through other internet sites.
